M2 OCCIDO PLUS is a sterilizing formulation designed to sterilize poultry eggs in a hatchery to prevent contamination of chicks at time of hatching. The importance of an effective sanitation program is to achieve a high level of hatchability and to produce  healthy chicks. The environment of a chick hatchery and its surroundings may become contaminated with microorganisms from various sources. 

Microorganisms on or in a few hatching eggs can easily be distributed throughout the hatchery through air movements during hatching, thereby contaminating or infecting all other chicks in the hatchery.  Included in the list of such microorganisms are several pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococci sp., Streptococci sp., Salmonella and Aspergillus fumigatus.  All these microorganisms are suspected of being associated with early chick mortality. Effective cleaning and sanitation programs are vital as a preventative measure in the poultry hatchery.  Disinfection and sanitation programs are  protocol in all hatcheries and therefore the selection of an effective disinfectant is of great importance.

The eggshell to which sanitizers are applied is part of the respiratory structure of the embryo and consists of an overlying cuticle, a crystalline calcium-carbonate layer with two underlying proteinaceous membranes.  The cuticle has been described as an uneven organic layer composed primarily of protein with some polysaccharide and lipid material.  The cuticle may either bridge the pore openings or extend down into them to form a plug.  The cuticle provides resistance to microbial invasion and contamination.  The cuticle may have a role in regulating the gaseous exchange between the egg and the embryo.  It is therefore imperative to choose a sanitizer that will sanitize the egg but will ensure the integrity and survival of the egg until the hatching date.  

M2 OCCIDO PLUS will optimise embryonic development in a pathogen free environment.

Dosing Instructions 

Mix 15 grams of M2 OCCIDO PLUS per 10 litres of clean water for the disinfection/sanitizing of eggs, hatchery, equipment, etc.  Apply with mechanical spray or misting device, making sure all surfaces are wetted thoroughly.  Allow surface to remain wet for  at least 10 minutes.  For heavily soiled eggs preliminary cleaning may be required. For the disinfection of drinking water mix 15g with 25 litres of water.

M2 OCCIDO PLUS has been proved effective on a log 5 reduction (99,999%) at 15 grams per 25 litres of water and a log 6 reduction (99,9999%) at 15 grams per 10 litres of water on the following microorganisms:

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Escherichia Coli
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Enterococcus hirae
  • Total aerobic bacteria enumeration
  • Salmonella Typhimurium
  • Lactobacillus Typhimurium
  • Lactobacillus brevis
  • Enterobacter cloacae
  • Listeria monocytogenes


M2 Occido Plus was approved in a SANAS International accredited laboratory on the  following standards:
